Burana Tower
Burana Tower is 11 century Minaret. On the Great Silk Road there was a blooming city - Balasagun that was founded by the Karakhanids. Many merchants came to that place to sell their goods and spend a night. There is a Tower. This tower was used as a sign for travelers and traders, as a watching tower and as a place to call local people to pray. At that time it was 45 meters high but because of the earthquake in 15 century has of it fallen down. But now it is only 24 meters high. The houses in the city were made of clay and they melt because of time. Now you can see only the tower and a hill nearby that is supposed to be khan's palace.
After the earthquake in of 15 c. people were scared to stay in the city. They thought that God did not want them to live there. That is way people ran away hasten and didn't take the majority of things with them. The archeologist found many artifacts there and you can see some of them in a local museum. In Soviet time the other part of artifacts was taken to Russia.
Also you will see there a cemetery of Balbals. Balabal is a stone warrior. In 7th century people used to make them for honored dead warriors. They were found in different places of Kyrgyzstan and taken to this place in order to save them for next generation.
Nearby you will see the site of ancient petroglyphs - stone carvings that dated the 8 century B.C. They were also placed here, in Balasagun city to be shown for travelers and tourists.
